Over the years, the Operations Research Society of Taiwan has continuously promoted the development of Operations Research (OR) in academic research, talent cultivation, and practical applications. Its research areas encompass key decision-making issues such as intelligent manufacturing, supply chain management, transportation, energy systems, financial engineering, and public policy. Professor Tsao pointed out that with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, supply chain restructuring, energy transition, and rising risks from extreme climate events, decision-making challenges are no longer solely about pursuing efficiency; they must simultaneously account for resilience and sustainability - precisely the moment when operations research can deliver its greatest value.
Professor Tsao has long been dedicated to research in operations research, decision analysis, and system optimization, while actively promoting industry–academia collaboration and cultivating numerous outstanding students, earning high recognition from both academia and industry. His election as President symbolizes the academic community’s strong trust in and expectations for his professional performance and service commitment. Moving forward, the society will focus on three major development directions: first, strengthening the application of operations research in national-level and high-level industrial decision-making, and promoting a decision-making culture grounded in data, modeling, and systems analysis; second, positioning the society as a key platform connecting academia, industry, and policy, assisting government and enterprises in enhancing operational resilience and decision quality; and third, continuing to cultivate younger generations and decision research talents, while deepening ties with international operations research societies to enhance Taiwan’s influence within the global academic community.
Under the leadership of the newly elected President, the society will continue expanding collaboration with government agencies, enterprises, and international organizations, enabling operations research to generate deeper and more long-term social impact in Taiwan. Professor Tsao will lead the Operations Research Society of Taiwan in promoting academic exchange, strengthening international connections, and advancing practical applications in industry and public policy, thereby injecting new momentum into the development of management science and intelligent decision-making in Taiwan. Faculty and students of the School of Management at Taiwan Tech extend their congratulations and look forward to further innovation and breakthroughs during his term.
