69 Taiwan Tech scholars named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists, with three professors ranked No. 1 nationally.

Stanford University in the United States has released its 2026 list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, featuring 69 scholars from Taiwan Tech. Of these, 60 professors were included in the Career-Long Scientific Impact ranking (1960–2025), while 43 scholars were recognised in the Annual Scientific Impact ranking. A total of 34 professors appeared on both lists, demonstrating Taiwan Tech faculty members’ outstanding achievements in both sustained academic research and annual research performance.

In the global cross-disciplinary rankings, 44 Taiwanese scholars were listed among the world’s top 10,000 researchers. Among them were Taiwan Tech’s Yushan Fellow, Honorary Chair Professor Tai-Shung Chung, and Chair Professor Jui-Sheng Chou, whose inclusion reflects the academic influence they have built through their longstanding commitment to research.

In the subject-area rankings, three Taiwan Tech professors achieved the highest positions in Taiwan in chemical engineering, electrical engineering and civil and construction engineering, respectively. In the Career-Long Scientific Impact ranking, Honorary Chair Professor Tai-Shung Chung of the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology ranked sixth worldwide in chemical engineering; Distinguished Professor Rong-Jong Wai of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering ranked 25th worldwide in electrical engineering; and Chair Professor Jui-Sheng Chou of the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering ranked 60th worldwide in civil and construction engineering. These results highlight the strong research capabilities of Taiwan Tech faculty members across a range of professional disciplines.

Among the 69 selected scholars, the largest number came from the subfield of Chemical Engineering, with eight scholars, followed by Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, with seven. Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Polymers each had six scholars on the list.

Compared with last year, several additional Taiwan Tech professors were included in the Career-Long Scientific Impact ranking for the first time. They are Professor Shi-Yow Lin of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor Ching-Wei Wang of the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Professor Dong-Hau Kuo of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Yi-Kai Juan of the Department of Architecture, Professor Wei-Song Hung of the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology, and Professor Che-Chia Hu of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Taiwan Tech’s emerging researchers also demonstrated outstanding academic performance this year. Assistant Professor Chen-Jui Huang, a newly appointed faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering, was included in the Annual Scientific Impact ranking for the first time in the first year of his appointment, highlighting his research potential. In addition, Professor Chih-Wei Chiu of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Ethiopian postdoctoral researcher Kebena Gebeyehu Motora of the same department also made their first appearance in the Annual Scientific Impact ranking.

Taiwan Tech continues to strengthen its commitment to academic research. From the sustained research contributions of senior professors to the achievements of early-career faculty members and international research talent, the university demonstrates research excellence across generations and disciplines. Looking ahead, Taiwan Tech will continue to support faculty members in pursuing academic research and innovation, deepen international academic exchanges, and enhance the global visibility and impact of its research achievements.
