Taiwan Tech partners with Advantech to boost innovation and talent development.
On March 6, Taiwan Tech officially signed an industry-academia collaboration agreement with Advantech Co., Ltd. The collaboration aims to combine Taiwan Tech's diverse research capabilities with Advantech’s industry development strategies, focusing on smart devices and AI edge computing. This partnership will expand talent cultivation in Taiwan and globally while enhancing Advantech's global talent and brand positioning.

The industry-academia collaboration agreement signing ceremony was co-hosted by Taiwan Techh President Jia-Yush Yen and Advantech Embedded IoT Group General Manager Jia-Hao Chang (Miller Chang). Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding the collaboration details and future plans. Advantech also congratulated Taiwan Tech on its 50th anniversary.

This collaboration is expected to be signed in phases, with each phase lasting 3 years. Advantech will allocate an annual budget of NT$6 million for the industry-academia partnership, totaling NT$18 million over 3 years for various collaborations with Taiwan Tech. Additionally, Advantech will provide scholarships, with an annual amount of NT$2.4 million, to graduate students participating in the industry-academia collaboration.

Taiwan Tech President Jia-Yush Yen stated that the university has long been committed to technological innovation and interdisciplinary academic research, actively engaging in industry-academia collaborations to create a learning environment that is both practical and forward-thinking for students. As a global leader in industrial IoT, Advantech's leadership in technology and research and development has also opened up opportunities for collaboration between the two parties.

Advantech stated that its goal is to become the “global leader in edge computing and Edge AI” and plans to actively expand in global markets. Through this collaboration, future industry-academia projects will be based on annual themed R&D plans, combining Taiwan Tech's diverse expertise and outstanding faculty with Advantech's medium- and long-term strategies to develop various collaboration initiatives.

The industry-academia collaboration projects will cover applications such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, information security management, energy, and utilities, with a focus on cultivating innovative tech talent and advancing research and development. The development of edge computing and AI technologies is rapidly transforming many industries, and corporate transformation will undoubtedly provide students with a high-quality learning and development platform.
