Blockchain master, Gavin Wood, visits Taiwan Tech to unveil the future of innovative technology JAM.

Gavin Wood, a key figure in the blockchain field and co-founder of Ethereum and Polkadot, is currently on a global speaking tour. On the 19th, he visited Taiwan Tech to share his developed JAM (Join-Accumulate Machine) technology. This was his first lecture in Taiwan, attracting over a hundred students and external attendees interested in blockchain. The event was fully packed as participants discussed the latest blockchain technologies and future trends.

Taiwan Tech invites Gavin Wood to speak, attracting over 100 blockchain enthusiasts from students and the public.

This lecture was Gavin Wood's only public event during his visit to Taiwan, made possible by the outstanding technical skills and innovative potential demonstrated by Taiwan Tech's Blockchain Research Club students in the Jam Implementer’s Prize. The club's member, Hsuan-You Zhong, connected with Gavin Wood through the Jam Implementer’s Prize group and proactively inquired about including Taiwan in his speaking tour. Gavin Wood's team highly recognized Taiwan Tech's Blockchain Research Club for its technical expertise and blockchain education, which led to active discussions for collaboration. After several meetings and detailed confirmations by President Hong-Yi Liu and Vice President Li-Hsiang Wang, the lecture was successfully finalized.

In his lecture, Gavin Wood explained the design concepts, features, and future development of the JAM technology. He pointed out that in the development of blockchain technology, Bitcoin introduced decentralized distributed ledgers, making peer-to-peer transactions possible. Ethereum created smart contracts, enabling blockchain platforms to support decentralized applications (DApps), while Polkadot further emphasizes the security and interoperability of cross-chain transactions between different blockchains.

With the development of Polkadot 2.0, JAM technology, as one of its core components, introduces an innovative computational architecture. Gavin Wood explained that the concept of JAM is to integrate decentralized computing resources through blockchain technology to form a large-scale virtual computer. This allows decentralized applications to run in a more efficient and flexible manner, making them easier to use, develop, and scale.

Moreover, JAM uses an asynchronous computing mechanism, significantly enhancing system flexibility, and enabling AI services with high computational demands, such as large language models (LLMs), to be implemented in decentralized environments. This opens up new possibilities for the development of Web3 technologies and establishes a higher-performance cloud computing platform.

Taiwan Tech President Jia-Yush Yen expressed that Gavin Wood's lecture at the university was a rare opportunity, and he hopes that the students present will take this chance to gain a deeper understanding of the core technologies and future developments in the blockchain world.

Taiwan Tecg Blockchain Research Club member, first-year student at College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Pei-Dun Hong, shared that the most impressive part of the event was the live technical demonstration. Not only did Gavin Wood explain the advantages of modular blockchain design, but he also showcased how to add new modules and blocks, and even shared some core code for analysis. Hong emphasized that he would cherish this opportunity and work hard to learn these valuable insights.

Gavin Wood has made outstanding contributions to the blockchain field and holds a prominent position. In addition to being a co-founder of Ethereum and the author of its white paper, he is also a co-founder of Polkadot.
