President of Paraguayan Congress Visits Taiwan Tech, Seeks to Cultivate Tech Talent Through Taiwan’s Expertise
Taiwan Tech has maintained close cooperation with Paraguay, actively supporting the training of technical and vocational talent. On November 5, Basilio Gustavo Núñez Giménez, President of the Paraguayan Congress and Senate, led a delegation of lawmakers to Taiwan Tech for a student forum. They discussed potential collaborations in education resources and industrial development, highlighting their strong focus on and expectations for the younger generation.

President Núñez emphasized that the Paraguayan government is fully committed to constructing the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University (UPTP) campus to meet the domestic demand for higher education talent. He highlighted Taiwan’s rich innovation, technology, and educational experience as valuable references for building a modern university in Paraguay. Núñez expressed hope that through bilateral cooperation, Paraguay could draw on Taiwan’s expertise and strive to become a key gateway for Taiwanese companies entering the Americas, creating a win-win development opportunity.

During the forum, Paraguayan students expressed strong interest in issues such as the government’s policies on introducing Taiwan’s high-tech industries, attracting foreign investment, and supporting youth further education. Senators Sergio Roberto Rojas Sosa and Derlis Hernán Maidana Zarza responded that the core goal of this visit is to explore more ways to drive industrial development between the two countries. They emphasized their continued support for Taiwan-Paraguay cooperation in education and industry and their commitment to supporting higher education, attracting more foreign investment, and fostering long-term development in Paraguay, ultimately creating more employment and growth opportunities.

Taiwan Tech enhances the theoretical and practical skills of Paraguayan students through diverse courses, hands-on workshops, and technical seminars, helping them learn from Taiwan’s rich knowledge of advanced technologies and innovation. Additionally, Dr. Shanq-Jang Ruan, Executive Director of the Taiwan-Paraguay Program Office and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, highlighted that Taiwan Tech offers various industry-academia collaboration resources. These initiatives encourage Paraguayan students to intern with Taiwanese companies, providing them with direct industry exposure and enhancing their workplace readiness. This industry-academia collaboration not only strengthens students’ professional skills but also helps train high-quality technical talent for Paraguay.
Ambassador Carlos José Fleitas R., Paraguay’s representative in Taiwan, noted that while Paraguayan students face employment challenges upon returning home, many industries are now considering entering the Paraguayan market, which will provide more job opportunities in infrastructure and services. Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios also expressed his expectation to see the UPTP campus officially launched during his term, allowing Paraguay’s younger generation to have access to an international-level learning and employment environment without having to leave their homeland.
Taiwan Tech’s long-term cooperation with Paraguay demonstrates the fruitful results of cross-border education and industry exchanges. It not only aids in cultivating talent in Paraguay but also strengthens students’ professional and competitive skills through practical cooperation.
