The competition was organized by the Taiwan Association of Business Schools and exclusively sponsored by SinoPac Bank. Covering four major themes - financial innovation, service innovation, social enterprise innovation, and digital transformation and marketing - the event comprehensively tested EMBA participants on their abilities in business problem analysis, innovative proposal development, team presentations, and on-the-spot Q&A.
Representing Taiwan Tech, the two winning teams each brought unique strengths to the competition. The team "Formosa Tigers" consisted of graduating students from the EMBA Class of 2023 (112th academic year) and tackled the Harvard Business School case "Mr. Beast: Building a YouTube Empire". They analyzed how the renowned YouTuber leveraged creative content and platform strategies to build a globally influential brand, through the lens of service innovation. The team "Full Tiger Power" was composed of first-year EMBA students from the Class of 2024 (113th academic year), with team members averaging over 20 years of work experience. They examined the case "FoodCloud", exploring how social enterprises can integrate technological innovation with business models to address food security and climate change, while balancing social responsibility and sustainable development.
Both teams were interdisciplinary in composition, including members from the Departments of Industrial Management, Business Administration, Information Management, the Graduate Institute of Management, and the Department of Finance. Their collaboration exemplified the cross-disciplinary strengths of Taiwan Tech's EMBA program and ultimately earned unanimous praise from the judges. Dean Yu-Chung Tsao of the School of Management noted, "Our students demonstrated exceptional professionalism, innovative thinking, and outstanding teamwork—fully embodying the College's core values of 'Excellence in Management, Integrity in Practice.'" EMBA Program Director Chih-Hao Lu added, "From preparation to presentation, the students displayed remarkable determination and unity. We are truly proud of them."
Taiwan Tech EMBA Executive Director Chih-Hao Lu, Professor Luarn Pin of the Department of Business Administration, and Professor Cheng-Kang Chen of the Department of Information Management served as advisors to the two competing teams, Formosa Tigers and Full Tiger Power.
Ko Yi-Chun, team leader of Formosa Tigers and a student in the Taiwan Tech EMBA Graduate Institute of Management, shared that the team began intensive preparation as soon as they registered for the competition. They practiced a total of seven case studies, balancing full-time jobs during the day and classes in the evening, yet continued their discussions and rehearsals late into the night. For nearly two months, most team members slept less than four hours a day - an extreme test of both physical endurance and mental resilience. Throughout the journey, they experienced disagreements and laughter, but even more importantly, developed mutual understanding, trust, and personal growth. With emotion, she reflected: "This honor is the result of every team member's hard work. Without any one of us, the outcome would not have been the same. Success is never accidental—thank you all for making this achievement possible".
The Formosa Tigers, composed of graduating EMBA students from the Class of 2023, tackled the Harvard Business School case "MrBeast: Building a YouTube Empire." From the perspective of service innovation, the team conducted an in-depth analysis of how the renowned YouTuber leveraged creative content and platform strategy to build a globally influential brand.
The Full Tiger Power team, which went through 16 rounds of presentation revisions, also successfully claimed the Gold Award. Team leader Ming-Chi Tsao remarked, "This competition challenged not only our application of theoretical knowledge, but also the communication and collaboration among senior students from five different departments. Starting from real-world business issues, we refined and integrated our ideas through repeated discussions to develop a concrete action plan". He expressed special thanks to the faculty advisors and 11 senior peers for their generous guidance and support, as well as to his teammates for their full commitment. Tsao also encouraged future cohorts to carry forward the Taiwan Tech spirit and tradition, and to continue achieving excellent results in future case competitions.
Full Tiger Power was formed by first-year EMBA students from Taiwan Tech's Class of 2024, with team members averaging over 20 years of professional experience. Drawing on their rich expertise and insight, the team analyzed the case "FoodCloud", exploring how social enterprises can integrate technological innovation with business models to address issues of food security and climate change.
