In today's rapidly changing society, mastering AI tools is a necessary skill for navigating the digital challenges of modern life. How to integrate these technologies into humanistic education to further promote personal growth and social care is a key issue in the field of education. Recently, Assistant Professor Tsai-Ju Lee and Professor Cathy Weng from the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education at Taiwan Tech led a team to combine AI with life education. Through online workshops, they guided students from Malawi and Kenya in creating life reflection videos, enhancing AI literacy and promoting personal growth and cross-cultural learning.
Assistant Professors Tsai-Ju Lee and Cathy Weng from Taiwan Tech, along with their team, combined AI with life education. Through online workshops, they helped students from Malawi and Kenya enhance their AI literacy while promoting personal growth and cross-cultural learning.
In recent years, there has been a global shift towards emphasizing life education, aiming to inspire students' care and understanding of life through theory and practical experience, while fostering resilience and wisdom in facing life's challenges. The theme of this workshop, "Life Reflection", encouraged participants to look back on milestones and achievements, guiding them to reflect on their personal growth journey and transform these experiences into narratives that delve into the meaning of life.
Through sharing life stories, students inspired each other, enhanced cross-cultural understanding, and expanded their global perspectives.
In the course, participants first used AI tools to write story scripts, practicing their writing and narrative skills. They then created visual images that matched their stories, bringing their life narratives to life. Finally, they used video editing software to compile all materials into high-quality life reflection videos, adding custom music and narration to craft personalized and impactful multimedia works.
Through this creative process, students not only mastered the application of various AI tools and enhanced their digital skills, but also gained a deeper understanding of their personal challenges and growth through reflection. This blend of technology and humanistic education not only boosts participants' creativity but also promotes psychological well-being.
At the same time, students learned practical skills such as scriptwriting, video editing, and music composition through AI tools, preparing them for the transition from campus to the workforce. A Kenyan student remarked that this experience not only taught him various AI skills but also helped him approach future challenges with a more positive attitude.
Malawian student Dennis used AI tools to create a life reflection video, enhancing his AI literacy while promoting personal growth and cross-cultural learning.
The AI Life Education workshop had 71 participants from Malawi and Kenya, representing diverse fields such as healthcare, education, and law. Their varied backgrounds brought rich cultural perspectives to the course. During the process of sharing life stories, participants inspired one another, deepened cross-cultural understanding, and expanded their global outlook. This cross-cultural exchange and collaboration lay a foundation for future global cooperation in a multicultural world.
The workshop ultimately produced over 60 high-quality life reflection videos, showcasing participants' creativity and diverse viewpoints. These videos not only highlight the integration of AI technology with life education but also serve as an example of creative expression through the fusion of technology and humanistic care.
Kenyan student Lolesther shared her life experience in the workshop and created a 3-minute result video to showcase her story.
Assistant Professor Tsai-Ju Lee stated that the workshop provided an experimental platform to showcase the potential integration of life education and AI technology. In the future, her team plans to expand this model to include more countries and cultural backgrounds, fostering global education and mental health development.
The combination of AI and life education demonstrated the potential of technology in the humanities field, enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration through cross-cultural exchange. This not only represents an innovative attempt in education but also opens up new possibilities for integrating global life education with technology.
