“If a library is like a maze, a place to find information from shelves of books, it will be a lot of fun going to the library,” said Mr Chiu Bo-Shiang, a student from NTUST Architecture, who presented a makeover project for Wanhua Library, Longshan Branch. The project will turn the old Longshan Library building into a modern maze house to attract younger generation to have fun in reading.
101 NTUST Archi Student Exhibition will be held until 27th this month at Zhongshan Exhibition Center. In addition to the in-house exhibition, students are encouraged to do street exhibition as “archipackers” by showcasing their design works in suitcases on subway streets, parks and squares.
According to Mr Chiu, Longshan Branch Library has been visited by very few people, especially young people. It struck him that he might be able to do face-lift for the old building by turning it into a modernized library to attract more visitors. People often fail to notice it because of its location in a dark alley. In his design, the library will connect to an open space in an adjacent park. It will also be surrounded by a few squares where the elderly can relax or have some chess games.
Lin Yu-Chian explores the idea “to turn a building into a smart entity that functions like a smart phone” and creates a design called Trans Phone. By putting up a TV wall that has all the functions of a smart phone inside a cell phone flagship or outlet store so that customers can come in and perform social networking by sharing pictures or other information.
Ms Chen Hui-Shuan presented “Aga Acoutics”, a design of an exhibition space near Sanchong Riverside Park, which is both a culture park and a wetland of water refinery. The refinery system inside the building will be designed to produce soothing, acoustic water flow.
